Name the failure mode

One device, a 2.4-only class, or the whole radio. Band steering, isolation, DHCP, airtime, or upstream. Do not start from a shopping cart.

Symptom → blast radius

Phones fine on 5 while IoT dies is not “buy mesh.” An indoor 5G crash is not “the city is slow.” Split the class before you change hardware.

03 / DISTRUST

Bars and icons ≡ nothing

Signal bars, 5G badges, and a green app tile are activity signals. None of them prove airtime, uplink, or that the gateway maps the bus.

04 / FIT-TEST

Site before SKU

Protocol map, remote path (CGNAT vs inbound), recovery / OOB, EMI. When the bench cannot answer the operator question, say so. Do not invent a workaround.
